Tangerine Pu’er Tuo Cha – Earthy Depth with a Citrus Lift
There’s a special kind of warmth that settles in the body after sipping a cup of aged Pu’er tea—deep, grounding, and comforting like a mountain path after the rain.
Now imagine that same path lined with old tangerine trees, their fragrant peels curling under the sun.
This is the experience of Tangerine Pu’er Tuo Cha (陳皮沱茶, chénpí tuó chá)—a harmonious pairing of ripe Pu’er tea with aged mandarin peel, pressed into small bowl-shaped mini cakes.
Traditionally enjoyed in southern China during the colder seasons or after heavy meals, this tea offers a soft fermentation depth with a citrusy brightness that gently awakens the senses.
A Traditional Pairing
In Chinese medicine, chenpi (aged citrus peel) is used to regulate Qi and aid digestion. Its sharp yet elegant aroma perfectly balances the rich, earthy smoothness of ripe Pu’er (熟普洱, shú pǔ’ěr).
The result is not only a pleasant tea, but a remedy in a cup—calming the stomach, warming the chest, and clearing subtle stagnation.
Our Tangerine Tuo Cha is made using Yunnan ripe Pu’er tea carefully aged together with high-quality dried mandarin peel from Xinhui, Guangdong—a region known for its medicinal citrus.
Tasting Notes
The infusion is soft and dark, with no bitterness or astringency. It opens with earthy wood and mellow camphor, followed by a rising citrus aroma that leaves a gentle sweetness on the tongue.
It’s like walking through a forest grove while carrying a sun-warmed orange in your hands.
